An update to encourage

Stories to encourage you from the wider Minster Community

Africa:

Reports are coming back to us now from the emergency feeding programme we undertook during last summer with Rachael Mutesi in Kalerwe - a slum community in Kampala, where teachers were starving. I thought I would post her report in full:

“What do you do in a broken world - just love people! Sometimes you are lucky to see them spread the love too.

At the beginning of lockdown last year in March, I visited a family which was struggling. The husband was almost dying while his wife labored to find food for their three sons. The youngest boy also suffered from an unknown illness that threatened his life.

When we got there, this lady had 100 UGX which she got from her old saving box. She had been tasked to clean a huge dirty drainage in exchange for a quarter of rice. She was desperate and decided to do it.

We mobilized funds and got her food supplies, paid her six months rent arrears, paid her rent for the whole year, got clothes for the boys and essential supplies for the family.

We also helped her resurrect her business and she has been doing amazing. She is now employing her sister.

Today, I visited her and to my greatest joy, this wonderful lady had adopted a child. This little girl had been thrown away on the rubbish pit and left to die. But this lady decided to keep her and give her a home.

I have been blessed hearing her story.

When we love and care for people, we empower them to do the same.

Thank you everyone who supported us last year. Thank you Latimer Minister and everyone who helped.

There's so much hope in the world.

Couldn't avoid sharing!”

If you want to keep supporting this work - gifts should be marked Rachael or Ufuhari - which is the name of the women’s programme she runs, and we will ensure that help get directly to the front line.

Tim Norman writes: Online church has its challenges and joys!

As well as people from the local area, we have people joining us from far and wide (including New York, China, Sweden and France).

We are seeing that people who were previously unavailable and too busy are now finding that they have more time and saying that they want to go deeper into the big questions of life, meaning and God. And guest speakers now join us from anywhere, as well as musicians and people leading us in prayer.

We have also seen greater prophetic insight and healing than we usually see.

Looking ahead, we expect to continue and develop online ministry. Alongside this we are planning to restart afternoon physical services once lockdown is over.
